Wood Flooring Miami
Over time, wood floors maintain their value. When other flooring options become tired looking and worn out, wood floors still look beautiful and timeless. Wood floors are ecologically friendly. Since it is a natural resource, wood is both renewable and recyclable. Many of yesteryear’s old wood ships, warehouses, barns, and other structures often find a second life in wood flooring. Because wood doesn’t collect dust and other allergens, many doctors agree that wood floors are the perfect choice for a healthy home. Wood is easy to care for! New technology in stains and finishes call for regular cleaning that’s as easy as sweeping and/or vacuuming.
If your wood flooring is composed of one material all throughout, then it’s solid hardwood. Solid flooring gives you a great opportunity for customization. Your choice of species, stains and finishes all contribute to the personalization of a solid floor. This is an excellent choice in most areas of a home on the ground level or above. Engineered wood flooring is made up of multiple layers of wood pressed together, with the grains running in different directions to make it more durable. The top layer is the species of wood that you are buying (like oak or maple). The other layers are made up of different species of wood. Engineered floors can be used in areas of the home that may not be suitable for solid hardwood floors: basements, kitchens, powder rooms, and utility rooms.
Never use a wet mop on hardwood as it can dull the finish or even damage the wood. Damp mop is ok. Do not use soap, detergent, solvents, alcohol, lacquer thinner or other domestic cleaners not specially formulated for hardwood. They can ruin the finish. Protect hardwood floors from prolonged exposure to harsh sunlight, which can accelerate oxidation and cause color to fade. Rearrange rugs and furniture periodically so the floor ages evenly.
Humidity can cause hardwood to expand and contract. Minimize these changes by maintaining constant humidity within your home, about 20 percent. Ensure your home has adequate ventilation. Every 3-5 years depending on your foot traffic, call us to put on a new topcoat. This one day procedure will remove surface scratches and footwear traffic as well as restore the finish. You will want to refinish your hardwood floors every 15-20 years or if you should have some deep gouges or scratches. See Wood Flooring Miami for even more details.
